Rick Wilhite is one of the most versatile DJs, hailing from Detroit, on the world stage. His ability to blend genres; disco to soulful house to minimal techno makes him a Detroit DJ’s favorite DJ.
Beyond a vinyl enthusiast, Wilhite commitment to wax, on this windy afternoon, is what makes this set masterful. Outside of the few wind aided scratches, Wilhite takes us on a musical journey that was a pleasure to experience at this year’s SCP/UR Backpack Festival. Enjoy!

DJ Piranhahead, 2012 Where do I start with DJ Piranhahead? Noted producer and DJ, Piranhahead is a fixture on the Detroit music scene. In addition to being a DJ, Piranha is a top notch bass player as well.
This set is right in the pocket of the music I came to grow and love. His performance was full of energy and had a soulful vibe. He had his partner in crime, vocalist, Diviniti on the set for a fantastic rendition of there newest track. Unfortunately, the sound man didn’t wire me the house sound, so all I got was what was coming out of the mixer.
Nonetheless, the passion and power is there. Check out DJ Piranhaead’s set and I’m sure you’ll agree - my man was bangin!!!

DJ SEOUL of Detroit Techno Militia is the epitome of BangTech. John Collins introduced me to SEOUL in 2011. Great guy. Always approachable and very knowledgeable about the music. Can’t wait to work with him and his hard hitting Techno Militia crew in the future. I love how, as a crew, they do a 5 man x 5 turntable set that is something you’ve never seen before.
The tempo of this all vinyl set is aggressive. DJ SEOUL bangs… he had the festival on there feet. Check it out! Shout out to T. Linder and the entire Detroit Techno Militia crew.

DJ J Daniel is a special kid. Its funny, but my last few trips to Detroit the camera has found him. There he would be banging the box. Rick Wilhite aka GODSON told me, “he learned the right way - on vinyl!” This deep house set was one to marvel because the wind didn’t care about the mix or his all vinyl set .
So forgive the couple of scratches at the top, the break around the 26:21 minute mark but the music picks back up a minute later.
It was a pleasure meeting him too, since he was one of the star of the #technoMecca Mixtape #movement #wrapup . DJ J Daniel is the youngest in charge. Enjoy the mix.
